1 Jan 2004 - 10:39pm - First Baby Shower!

Our first baby shower was today, hosted by the illustrious Michelle, and attended by our dearest friends. I always feel so awkward being in the spotlight, and finding myself wanting to constantly say "No, no, no, you shouldn't have."

We received some of the most delightful baby stuff, from bassinet to a really cool wardrobe/dresser/changing table combo unit, from sleepers with ears and teeny asian dragon clothing to piggy puppets, from a promised portrait of our child to a handmade blanket I want for myself. (I can and will list them all soon, because we loved everything, and I don't want anyone to think we didn't love what they got us! Or rather, got JAM! Because it's all so neat. Mmmmm, I love baby stuff!)

I had a great day! Absolutely wonderful! Aside from the fact that I got no sleep (the baby was pretty much up all night moving about, which meant I was), I was feeling really good today: very energetic, and not at all achy. I didn't really feel pregnant at all - at least not until around 4 or 5pm, when exhaustion began to catch up with me. As such, I foolishly acted as if I were not pregnant, sitting and moving about in ways I realize now I should not have.... because, dear lord, am I paying for it now in the amount my abdomen and back muscles are aching. (Doesn't help that I had a series of Braxton-Hicks contractions when I got home). When I commented on this to John, he said that he felt like saying something to me at the party, but felt as if he would be "the bad guy" by doing so. I told him that he wouldn't be the bad guy for doing so in the future - because he'd be reminding me only of how much pain I can cause myself if I don't take it easy! LOL.

But, yes, a delightful day... lots of gifts, and the best of friends, and then all the guys arriving later and everyone hanging out and chatting and playing games. I had a delightful time, even if by the time it neared 7pm I was ready for sleep. So tired these days I am.

So I feel like a wus for leaving early as we did, but boy was I exhausted and beginning to ache. So home we came. Whereupon John immediately put together the baby's bassinet (and the kitty tried claiming it for his own when John was done!)... yay, for baby stuff!

Thank you, all! You really are the best! :)

And now... back to bed and sleep and a resting of abused muscles... :)

2/03/2004 - JOSHUA ANTHONY WAS BORN TODAY at 8:25am!! 5 lbs, 15oz. 19 1/4 inches.
1/31/2004 - Our fourth, and final, Childbirth Class was held today. Classes are done - we're really almost there!
1/28/2004 - 36 Weeks Along Today!
1/27/2004 - Infant CPR class was this evening
1/19/2004 - We begin weekly doctor visits starting today! The final stretch is definitely here.
1/13/2004 - Breastfeeding Class was this evening
1/10/2004 - Surprise Family Baby Shower held today! 2nd Childbirth class and tour of maternity ward earlier in the morning.
1/04/2004 - The Nursery begins to take shape, at last!
1/01/2004 - Our first Baby Shower! Pictures are up of some of JAM's goodies!
