Singing For A Kiss
We
started off dinner with the traditional means of getting the Bride &
Groom to kiss: by the chiming of the champagne glasses. But mid-way through
dinner, we had our DJ request a new means of getting us to kiss: by the
singing of any song that had the word "love" in it. We have quite
a few musically-inclined friends, many of whom have wonderful voices, and
we thought this would be a fun way of requesting kisses.
A few moments after the DJ made the announcement, our friend Mike stood to his feet and burst out with "The Love Boat!" and sang through the refrain, amid the laughter and clapping of everyone present. We gladly shared a kiss to his enthusiastic singing.
Caitlin sang next, with a beautifully sung version of "In My Life"by the Beatles. She was met by great applause afterwards, and again we gladly kissed.

We
fondly called this moment "The Eclipse Music Video." Our friends
- David, Hillary, Jaime, Michelle, and Kendra - are part of a group called
Eclipse and chose "I'll Make A Man Out of You" from Disney's Mulan
as one of their team's themesongs (long story!). At an event in April, we
saw them do a little performance to the song, and suddenly we knew that
we had to surprise them with a moment on the dancefloor with Mushu at our
wedding! As we kept the character appearances a secret, this moment was
doubly a surprise for them.
After
Mushu made his appearance, we had the DJ announce, "The bride and groom
have requested that all the members of Eclipse - and you know who you are
- please come onto the dancefloor." Most of them were already there,
having been dancing with Mushu a few moments before, but when the song "I'll
Make A Man Out Of You" began to play, they all started laughin in surprise
and delight. Their smiles will stay with us always. It made our day of joy
complete to see the joy we brought to others at this one moment.
All
of them really got into the act, and started singing along to the song while
Mushu danced alongside them. Jon, our DJ, soon realized that they all knew
the words - were in fact, performing to it - and handed them the mic to
them so everyone could hear them singing. He also turned down the music
so their voices carried. Our friends then stepped up to the moment, and
performed the song as we had seen them do it months before.

David
sang the main verses, as if he were Shang singing to the army trainees,
and the ladies sang the refrain. At the end of the song, they all gathered
into a tight circle to sing the final round... and were greeted by cheers
and applause from all of us as they ended with their final cheer, "Eclipse!"
